yes you should definately design and build your own house, then you will see some of the problems that occure, things that dont go as planned, and you will be able to match your dreams and visions with reality, Nothing ever goes as planned. One day youll see.
sounds great…i wish you luck. My husband built a house 5 years ago and it can be HELL, because of shoddy work, contractors that refuse to show up, etc. But, if you act as your own contractor and you are one of those people with a driving mentality, it may be allright.
Personally? I love houses from the Craftsman era (my house is 104 years old). The quality and materials would be absolutely astronomical in price today. Every wall is solid wood tongue in groove plank, not just studs and drywall. All red oak hardwood floors. Of course, renovating a house sometimes stinks too, but this way you can do it a little at a time, as your budget allows for it. Just depends on what you want.
good luck
ps LOL i just read the post above.

I think you should design your own…..It’s worth the time and money , the satisfaction of playing a big part in the design, we had taken plans for a home that we liked , choose where to improve the home several times., I’d suggest finding several homes with the styling , sizes, and everthing else and go from there, modifications can set you back $500.00 a pop to the plans, after the initial pricing but as a whole it’s well worth it. Frequently we say I so glad we changed that to our needs……..Good luck, go for it!!!
To build in the K.C. area a licensed builder ( that is reputable) cost around $125 a square ft. with out land cost. You have the resources to do some trading and might lower your cost considerably(15-20%). Around here an existing home sells about $75 a square ft.but is rising. The price of living in a house that you designed…..priceless. I am an carpenter and take an extreme amount of pride showing off my work and know you would feel the same. In short…. Go for it dude!
when you have so many desires and dream house, you will really enjoy building it and you ll not find it difficult.
you should not buy it. you r adapted to live in a constructed house that u buy.
when u design your own, you can design to your needs.
also , you can save cost in various economical ways of treating your walls, flooring, elevation etc.
go ahead. good luck.

Not necessarily a problem. Spend some time vi sting construction jobs… see a house you like ask questions. Find out who is the Framer, who does the foundation, etc. Ask their price per Sq. ft. Go to city hall and ask questions. It is easy and fun… But you gotta like it or forget it. I never picked up a hammer and built my house, saving 30%
I truly believe in the products I feature on my website so I became an affiliate and I receive a commission every time someone I refer to their websites purchases these products. This gives me the resources to keep this site going.
